Its graduation rate of 93% helped the school land on the list. Also, Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical spends about $3,000 more than the average high school in Massachustts on each student. They spend $16,208 per student. The SAT scores are on par with the state average. The MCAS scores for the school are above the state average by about ten percent in each category.
Technical Courses
Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School is a technical high school that serves the 13 towns in Blackstone Valley. The school offers seventeen technical programs which include: Auto body, drafting, automotive technology, business technology, carpentry, cosmetology, culiniary arts, dental assisting, electrical, electronics, multimedia communications, health services, HVAC/R, information technology. Christopher Cummings, Principal of Blackstone Valley Tech, said "We have programs that enable our students to be competitive in the 21st Century market place.
Connecting Students with Employers
Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School puts a major emphasis on building partnerships with industry leaders within their district and in the state. Cummings said, "We are very aggressive in making those connections with potential employers. We’re training our students in multiple programs to be career ready. Within our academic cycle we have a whole program devoted to employability." Cummings said, helping the students gain the skills to become employable is as important as the technical skills.
