A charter bus driven was destroyed on Monday morning when it caught fire at the interchange between the Mass Pike and I-495 in Hopkinton.

Massachusetts State Troopers from the Millbury Barracks and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section (CVES) are investigating the fire that destroyed the bus owned by AA Transportation in Shrewsbury.

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the fire. The driver of the bus, a 34-year-old Worcester man, observed smoke and pulled the bus over. Shortly after, the bus became engulfed in flames. The driver made it out of the bus and was not injured.

Early that morning, passengers who had been on the bus had been transferred to another bus after the driver reported a fluid leak. It was when he was driving the original bus back to AA Transportation that it caught on fire.

The fire caused the ramp between the highways to close for two hours. The investigation is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
