Wednesday, August 10, 2016

One man's violent crime spree swept Worcester on Tuesday afternoon. As he allegedly raped, assualted robbed and carjacked all in a couple of hours timeframe.

Late on Tuesday afternoon at a little after 5 pm, Worcester Police responded to a Main Street business office for a reported rape. Upon the officers arrival they met with a 27-year-old female victim. The victim,  stated that a male suspect entered her office, placed his hands over her throat and then forcibly raped her. During the attack the suspect was in possession of a knife. After the attack the suspect grabbed her car keys and fled.

The man continued on a sweeping array of crimes over the next hour.

Antonio Damon was captured about an hour later and he was charged with two Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Aggravated Rape, Strangulation, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Carjacking, Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person over the Age of 14, Breaking and Entering into A building in the Daytime Placing a Person in Fear, 2 Counts of Armed Robbery and Assault with the Intent to Rape.

At approximately 5:30 PM, a Worcester Police officer was on routine patrol on Grove Street by Faraday Street. The officer was flagged down by a male operating his vehicle in the opposite direction. The officer stopped and spoke with the male. The male informed the officer that his 21-year-old girlfriend was just leaving work on Main Street when she was accosted by a male that forced his way into her car. The male had her drive off with him in the car. The girlfriend was on the phone with the boyfriend at the time of the incident. The girlfriend was operating a blue Subaru Forester. At this time the officer was approached by a female driver. The driver informed the officer that she was just involved in a hit and run incident on Grove Street by Institute Road. The driver stated that the suspect vehicle was a blue Subaru Forester, according to Worcester Police.

The officer broadcasted the information over the police radio informing all nearby officers to be on the lookout for the Subaru.

At approximately 5:50 PM, a Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit discovered the Subaru unoccupied parked in the driveway of a North Ashland home. The female had bailed out of the car prior to the vehicles discovery. The male suspect had continued driving after she had jumped out of the vehicle. The woman informed the officers that the suspect grabbed her by the throat and forced his way into her vehicle. During the short drive she was sexually assaulted.

Numerous police officers converging to the area searching for the suspect. Information at this time indicated that the suspect description matched the description of the rape and kidnapping suspect. Police believed that they were dealing with just one suspect.

Within a short period of time police dispatchers received a call of an armed robbery in progress at a Denny Street business. This location was just around the corner from where the Subaru was discovered.

"Worcester Police responded to the Denny Street address. The first officer on scene observed a 38-year-old male victim running out from a porch yelling that the suspect was inside. The officer entered the porch and observed a male, fitting the description of the suspect, crouched down in the corner. The officer yelled out to the male to show his hands. The suspect complied. The suspect was then ordered to place his hands behind his back. The suspect refused and began to resist. The suspect was taken to the floor in an effort to control him and secure his hands. The suspect struggled and resisted arrest. Several officers were now on scene and they were able to finally secure him. Officers noticed a pair of scissors on the floor within reaching distance to the suspect. The suspect began to yell obscenities at the officers and stated that he had an assault weapon and would not hesitate to "spray" them," according to Worcester Police.

The police said, that there were several people inside the business during this incident. Officers were told that they were starting to close for the day when they observed the suspect by the front door trying to gain entrance. The door was locked. The suspect pounded on the door and tried to pull on the door knob. The people inside stated that they were closing for the day. The suspect broke the glass in the door, reached in and unlocked the door. Some of the people ran into a bathroom and locked themselves in. The victims could hear the sound of items breaking throughout the store. The male victim attempted to stop the suspect. The suspect ripped a gold chain offone man as he approached him. The suspect was holding a knife. The male victim ran out the building and into the first arriving police officer.

The suspect was identified as Antonio Damon, 35-years-old of 25 Queen Street, Worcester. Mr. Damon was charged with 2 Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Aggravated Rape, Strangulation, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Carjacking, Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person over the Age of 14, Breaking and Entering into A building in the Daytime Placing a Person in Fear, 2 Counts of Armed Robbery and Assault with the Intent to Rape.
