Donahue Wins Democratic Primary for Worcester 16th

Tuesday, September 09, 2014

Worcester 16th District incumbent Dan Donahue has once again defeated Josh Perro in a close race by a vote of 1675 to 1469.

Donahue and Perro had previously battled for the 16th Worcester seat in 2013 as a result of the resignation of John Fresolo after a House Ethics investigation, with Donauhue narrowly beating Perro by 100 votes.

“We were outspent but we weren’t outworked,” said Donahue after his win.

In an effort to pull ahead of Donahue in this year’s primary, Perro has spent a lot of his own money to fund his campaign, loaning $28,600 and donated $49,350, outspending Donahue $122,000 to $37,000 according to the latest OCPF report.

Donahue is a 27-year-old lifelong resident of Quinsigamond Village already has solid party affiliation, having worked as a campaign field staffer for the 2010 Governor's election, and as Political Director for Lt. Governor Tim Murray overseeing Murray's campaign committee.

Perro is also a lifelong resident of the 16th Worcester District and graduated from Holy Cross, but ultimately couldn’t overcome Donahue who drew praise for his short time in office.
