Dudley

The town of Dudley, whichs ranks as Central MA's #24th Best Community, is home to Nichols College and over 35 percent of its residents are under under the age of 25. Much of the western portion of Dudley was used by the Nipmuc tribe for burial grounds. In fact, it was discovered that the town landfill was located over an ancient burial site.

Located in southern Worcester County, Dudley is a largely student filled community, with many older residents leaving the town for work.

Dudley ranks 11th in safety, and makes the top 20 for affordability (#20).  While most of the town's rankings fall in the twenties, Dudley's lowest rank (#35) is for restaurants.

History in a nutshell:

Dudley, settled in 1714 and incorporated in 1732, aided the Union Army during the Civil War both by sending the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry to the Battle of Gettysburg and by leading the manufacturing of the "Borgan boots" worn by the army. It has remained a bedroom community.
