DUI Checkpoint in Worcester County This Weekend

Thursday, May 07, 2015

Thanks to a grant from the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, a sobriety checkpoint will be held in Worcester County on Friday and Saturday.

Colonel Timothy Alben, Superintendent of Massachusetts State Police, announced the checkpoint on Monday. According to Mass State Police, "the purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public's awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways."

The checkpoints will be at undisclosed locations and will be "operated during various hours."

Last year, GoLocal Worcester reported on the rights of a driver during a checkpoint. The story can be seen here: DUI Checkpoint This Weekend: What Are Your Rights?

State Police said "the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."
