Worcester’s Goldie Michelson is Oldest Person in America at 113
Goldie Michelson, a Clark University alum M.A. 1936, and Worcester resident, is now the oldest person in the United States at 113 years of age. Michelson is also the oldest jew in the world.
She took the title after Susannah Mushatt Jones passed away last week at 116 years of age.

Worcester Ranks Poorly as a Travel Destination
A national study ranks Worcester as one of the worst cities in the United States for summer travel.
The City ranks as the worst destination in America for Parks and recreation facilities and it ranks 76th of 80 cities for attractions.
Americans’ overall summer travel budgets will actually take a dip in 2016. Average per-traveler spending will shrink by almost 20 percent — from $2,788 in 2015 to $2,239.

MassDevelopment Issues $28M Bond to Renovate Worcester’s Washington Heights
MassDevelopment has issued a $28 million tax-exempt bond on behalf of Washington Heights housing. The housing complex has been often a crime ridden area. In 2014, three bodies were found on site and in 2015 a body was found in a burning car.
The organization is using bond proceeds to buy and renovate Washington Heights -- a 404-unit multi-family housing apartment complex. Renovations include bathrooms, kitchens, fire alarm and electrical upgrades as well as new air conditioning units, HVAC equipment and a security system.

Bill Weld is Running for Vice President
Former GOP Governor of Massachusetts Bill Weld is now the Vice Presidential candidate for the Libertarian party.
Weld was a popular moderate Governor from 1991 to 1997 and then tried to knock John Kerry out of his Senate seat in 1996. He lost in a close election and was appointed to be Ambassabor to Mexico, but GOP Senators lead by NC Senator Jesse Helms held his appointment.
In New York he unsuccessfully ran for Governor in 2006. Now, he is a third party VP candidate.

New Boss at Hanover
Hanover may be Worcester's most important company. Joseph M. Zubretsky will replace Fred Eppinger as President and Chief Executive Officer at Hanover Insurance effective June 20.
Eppinger has been a steady hand at Hanover and helped to drive the companies stability and growth. In Worcester, Eppinger has been a powerful force in the community casting a huge impact over everything from the arts to local baseball to the library and so much more.
