The Incident
On Wednesday, June 7, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the WPD Vice Squad were patrolling the Vernon Hill area in an effort to continuously apply pressure to the open air street level drug dealers.
At this time the undercover officers were on Fifth Avenue. Officers saw a blue Toyota Corolla parked on the street, just in from Vernon Street. The officer that spotted the car was familiar with the vehicle and the owner. The officer knows the owner based on past drug investigations. The owner is known as Mathew Church, 34-years-old of 8 Walnut Street, Shrewsbury.
Inside the car was Church and three unknown women. The officer called out to his nearby undercover colleagues about his discovery and to plan and initiate surveillance.
At approximately 1:50 p.m., officers saw a man approach the car and make a quick exchange with the women. The man then walked away and the Toyota drove off. Officers conducting the surveillance now believed that they had just witnessed a street level drug deal take place. At this point, several of the officers began to follow the Toyota. The car was stopped at Spurr Street by Providence Street.
Officers approached the car and saw hypodermic needles on the floor. One needle was seen on the seat which appeared loaded with heroin and ready to be injected.
The women were identified as Anna Rydelek, 30-years-old of 8 Walnut Street, Shrewsbury, Michelle Wylie, 29-years-old of 347 Pleasant Street, Paxton and Lisbed Rodriguez, 34-years-old of 1 Willvail Street, Worcester.
At this time all four people were removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest.
A female officer responded to the scene to search the female prisoners. A search of Rodriguez produced a large rock of crack cocaine in a knotted plastic bag. The crack weighed approximately 5.2 grams. The search also produced $226.00 in cash.
A search of the car produced a block of a substance known as Manitol. Manitol is a cutting agent for cocaine.
The remaining passengers were searched which produced negative results. All four were transported to WPD headquarters for booking proceedings. The Toyota was towed from the scene.
The crack cocaine, the hypodermic needle with the heroin and cash were confiscated as evidence.
