Galvin Wins Sixth Term As Secretary of State

Tuesday, November 04, 2014

Secretary of State William Galvin has easily won reelection against his Republican opposition David D'Arcangelo.

With 30-percent of precincts reporting, Galvin has a commanding lead over both D’Arcangelo and Green Party candidate Daniel Factor. Galvin has 68-percent of the vote while D’Arcangelo has 29-percent and Factor has three.

Galvin is the longest-serving elected official in Massachusetts, serving since 1994.

The Secretary of State race has been largely uneventful this election season due largely in part to the fact that Galvin has already served five-consecutive terms, securing his role as the favorite.

Galvin was also the longtime Representative of the Massachusetts 19th District, serving from 1979 to 1991.

D’arcangelo tried to sell himself as “not your average politician” throughout his campaign, saying that he was a candidate that could bring “positive plans to modernize the Secretary of State’s Office. Saying that Galvin has failed to keep up with technology, D’Arcangelo pledged to bring electronic voting to the state if elected.

Voters didn’t get much of an opportunity to see the candidates in the spotlight, as there was only one debate between Galvin, D’arcangelo and Green-Rainbow candidate Daniel Factor and it was held on Oct. 27th, only a little more than a week before the campaign.
