Happy Fourth of July, Central Massachusetts!
Thursday, July 04, 2013
John Adams was spot on when he wrote to his wife Abigail about Independence Day.
"I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival," he wrote. "It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."
Here in Central Mass, we live up to President Adams' expectations. From the annual Independence Day parade in Rutland to the annual Parks and Recreation event in Shrewsbury, to the fireworks in Millbury and Bellingham, Central Mass loves its liberty, its country and its heroes.
Today we celebrate them all.
