Help on the Way to Worcester to Assist in Snow Removal
Wednesday, February 11, 2015
Due to the record-breaking amounts of snow the city has seen recently, the DPW has been working continously without a day off since January 20.
“Our city employees and contractors have been doing yeoman’s work over the past three weeks, but this is an all-hands-on-deck situation,” Augustus said. “The entire community is pitching in, and I’m grateful for their help. I want to thank MEMA, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, the National Guard and our colleges and universities for helping Worcester dig out from this unprecedented series of storms.”
On Tuesday, MEMA committed to send more heavy equipment, including six front-end loaders and 20 dump trucks to clear 'snow from strategic locations around the city.' The snow removal will be done overnight and on the weekends to avoid traffic problems.
The National Guard has sent three four-person teams to remove snow from around fire hydrants. Athletic teams, clubs and student groups from area college will help out cleaning up their respective campuses.
As GoLocal reported, Worcester is currently the Snowiest City in the United States with over 90 inches of snow.
