“Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero” is the most recent of six books Matthews has written throughout his career. The book is a biography of JFK and is based on personal interviews with those closest to the former president. Included are oral histories by top political aides, and documents his years as a student at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut.
Matthews is a 1967 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross. He served as a speech writer for President Jimmy Carter and was a top aide to House Speaker Thomas O’Neill Jr.
After his career in politics, he served for 13 years as the Washington Bureau Chief for the San Francisco Examiner. He later became a national columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle.
“Hardball with Chris Matthews” runs weeknights at 7 p.m. on MSNBC. He is also the host of the Sunday morning “The Chris Matthews Show” on NBC.
Matthews has made other recent visits to Holy Cross. He was the commencement speaker in 2003 and spoke as a Constitution Day speaker in 2009.
The talk will begin at 8 p.m. in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom. Following the free and open to the public talk, Matthews will be available to sign copies of his book.
