Jewelry Store Robber Returns to Get Phone in Worcester and Gets Arrested

Worcester Police arrested Leshawn Parrish, 34, of Boston when he returned to the City Jewelry store located at 507 Main Street to get his phone, which he left behind while robbing the store. 

The store owner locked the door preventing the suspect from getting his phone and called the police to provide a suspect description. 

A Worcester Police officer observed a male fitting the suspect description walking near a seven eleven on Main Street. The officer approached the man and asked if she could speak with him. The male said yes but then ran off. 

The officer called out that she was involved in a foot chase with the suspect and several officers responded to the scene. Officers chased after the male through the Worcester Common and eventually ended up inside the front doors of 100 Front Street. 

Police identified the man as Parrish and eventually arrested him after he resisted attempts. 

During the foot chase, Parrish was seen throwing items into the sewer drain by the entrance to 100 Front Street. 

Worcester Department of Public Works was called to the scene to assists the officers in retrieving the items. The search produced some of the chains which the owner identified as belonging to his inventory. 

A witness was transported to the scene of apprehension and positively identified Parrish as one of two suspects that took the jewelry. 

Parrish was in possession of a backpack holding three separate containers of marijuana, a scale and $805 in cash. 

He was charged with larceny in a building, disorderly, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and possess of a class D substance with the intent to distribute. 

Further Investigation 

Officers went to the store to review security film footage and observed Parrish purposely distracting the owner so that a second suspect could reach over the counter and grab a tray full of silver and gold chains. The owner was unaware of the theft until a witness informed him. 

The witness stated that the two suspects were seen splitting the chains between them on Main Street. 

Police continue to look into the identity of the second suspect.
