Members, Friends, and family from the Major David Brodeur Memorial Foundation will be building at Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/ Greater Worcester's 4 Homestead Avenue home build in Auburn on Saturday, April 23 from 8 a.m.t o 4 p.m. They will be doing it to honor the 5th anniversary of Major Brodeur's death in Afghanistan in 2011.

“We were looking for a meaningful way to honor the life of David Brodeur. Providing a home for two low-income families in Auburn would have been very important to David, who was educated in the Auburn public schools and lived in Auburn with his wife and two children. David would have been pleased with Habitat’s mission to provide families with a hand up – not a hand out. Character building, going above and beyond, and helping the community were what David was all about. We are pleased to honor his memory by helping Habitat build local homes, community, and hope,” said Leslie Wilson, Vice President of the Foundation.

David Brodeur

Major Brodeur died on April 27, 2011 at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan. He was on deployment to Afghanistan from Elmendorf AFB in Alaska.

While in Afghanistan, Brodeur had been assigned as an advisor to the Afghan Command and Control Center under the NATO Air Training Command

Broduer went to school in the Auburn public school system graduating from Auburn High in 1994.

4 Homestead Avenue Home Build

The property was donated by Bank of America and work has begun on a new duplex home. Each duplex will be LEED certified to meet environmentally friendly goals.

The duplex will be home to 2 low income families who will contribute 400-500 hours of "sweat equity" building their homes and learning skills to be successful homeowners.

The families will buy their home at a 0% interest rate mortgage based on their income, which must fall between 30% and 60% of the area's median income.

Habitat for Humanity

The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to build homes, community and hope for low-income families in the Greater Worcester and MetroWest areas of Massachusetts. Habitat has an open-door policy, welcoming all volunteers and supporters, regardless of religious affiliation, race, nationality or other background.
