The Incident
On Tuesday, August 15, at approximately 12:19 p.m., Worcester Police responded to an Orient Street address for a report of a break in progress. Upon the officers arrival they saw three people standing out on a deck. Two of the three people were the residents of the home while the third person, later identified as Patrick Carroll, 34-years-old of 1005 Washington Street, Ayer, MA, was identified as an intruder to the home.
Officers were told that the residents heard some noise coming from the side door. Before the resident could investigate further Carroll was seen inside the home entering one of the bedrooms. The residents ran out of the home and called the police. The residents remained outside on the deck, waiting for police, when Carroll, unaware that people were home, exited from the basement bulkhead door. It was at this time police arrived at the scene.
After speaking with everyone the officers noticed that a pickup truck was parked near the property. The car belonged to Carroll. A check on the registration came back canceled. The plate attached to the truck belonged to a trailer.
