Man Arrested After Breaking Into Worcester Home, Discovered by Owner on Security Video

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

A Worcester man was arrested after he was caught breaking and entering into a Brantwood Road home on Tuesday morning.

Timothy Hammond, 40, was charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, larceny in a building and resisting arrest

The Incident

On Tuesday, October 30,  at approximately 11:45 a.m., Worcester Police responded to a Brantwood Road home for a reported breaking and entering in progress. Responding officers were told the homeowner had called police after seeing an unknown man inside his house via his home security camera. The homeowner was not on location when he viewed the footage.

The first arriving officer went to the rear of the home and began to walk up the rear porch. At this time the officer saw that the rear sliding door was open. The officer then noticed a man about to exit the home while carrying a full medium sized backpack.

The officer ordered the man to the ground. The man stopped but refused to get onto the ground. The officer had to physically take the man to the ground. The man was now actively resisting the officer’s efforts to place him in handcuffs. Several officers now arrived at the location and assisted the officer in securing the suspect. The suspect was escorted to the front of the house while a K-9 officer entered the home and conducted a sweep to make sure that there were no other suspect’s hiding in the home. The search produced negative results and deemed safe.

The owner of the home arrived at the scene. The owner was able to show the officers the video of the man entering the home. The owner stated that the backpack that the suspect was carrying belonged in the home. Inside the backpack were electronic items that also belonged to the homeowner.

The suspect was identified as Hammond.
