Man Arrested After Police Find Two Loaded Guns in his Worcester Apartment

Thursday, February 23, 2017

A man was arrested by Worcester police after two loaded guns were found inside of his apartment.

Gerardo Rodriguez, 19, is being charged with two counts of firearm use in a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm w/out FID, two counts of receiving stolen property over $250, two counts of improper storage of a firearm, and two counts of ammunition w/out and FID.

He will be arraigned tomorrow in Worcester District Court.

The Incident

On Tuesday, February 21, members of the Vice Squad executed a search warrant at 12 Tirrell Street, Apartment 3. The named target of the search warrant was Rodriguez.

At approximately 12:45 p.m., members of the Vice Squad made entry into the apartment. Rodriguez was not located inside the apartment upon entry.

During the search, police found a loaded Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun and a loaded Smith and Wesson .380 caliber handgun. The guns were located in a backpack in Rodriguez’ bedroom and were not properly secured. Police were aware that Rodriguez does not possess a license to carry or a firearm identification card. A subsequent check also revealed that both firearms had been reported stolen.

Rodriguez was being electronically monitored by the Probation Department due to a pending criminal case. Members of the Vice Squad spoke with the monitoring center and obtained an updated location on Rodriguez’ whereabouts. Police were told that Rodriguez was in the area of Benefit Street. As officers arrived in the area to search for Rodriguez, they were told by the monitoring center that Rodriguez had just cut off his monitoring device. After a brief search, members of the Vice Squad located the discarded monitoring device in a nearby yard.

Police continued to check the immediate vicinity and a short while later they saw Rodriguez attempting to leave the area in a car. Members of the Vice Squad stopped the vehicle and placed Rodriguez under arrest.
