Man Arrested Following High-Speed Car Chase in Worcester

A man in a stolen Dodge pickup truck led police on a high-speed chase through Worcester on Tuesday afternoon before he was finally arrested after crashing into a parked car.

Wilfredo Crespo-Morales, 30, of Dudley, MA, is being charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, trespassing, as well as numerous motor vehicle charges.

The Incident

On Tuesday, November 29, at approximately 1:36 p.m., a Worcester Police officer on patrol in the area of Southbridge and Jackson Streets saw a gray Dodge pickup truck with no front plate turn onto Southbridge Street from Jackson. The truck matched the description of a truck that had been reported stolen earlier in the morning. As the officer attempted to turn around and get a better look at the vehicle’s license plate, the truck began driving erratically. It turned onto Lafayette Street and then Endicott Street, picking up speed as it went. The officer activated his lights and sirens to initiate a stop of the vehicle, but the truck accelerated at a high rate of speed onto Perry Ave from Endicott Street. At this time, the officer lost sight of the truck.

A short time later, other officers in the area saw the truck driving on Raymond Street near Fifth Ave. Upon seeing the police car, the truck accelerated up Raymond Street, turning onto Gediminas Street. Officers again lost sight of it. Other officers in the area then saw the truck on Vernon Street. An officer watched the truck strike a parked car in the area of Vernon and Maxwell Streets before the driver (later identified as Wilfredo Crespo-Morales, 30 years old of Dudley, Ma) fled from the truck on foot towards Esther Street.

Police gave chase and eventually located Crespo hiding under a porch of an address on Esther Street. Crespo refused to comply with officer’s requests to exit from under the porch, but instead attempted to flee on foot again. Officers quickly caught up to Crespo and were able to take him to the ground. Crespo continued to fight police, refusing numerous attempts to place his hands behind his back forcing police to ease him, which appeared to have no effect.

Officers were eventually able to put Crespo into handcuffs.
