Man Arrested for Stabbing Sister-in-Law and Another Man in Worcester
Monday, January 16, 2017
The suspect was arrested and is being charged with mayhem and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. The identity of the individual arrested is being withheld at this time due to the comprehensive domestic violence law that the Massachusetts state legislature passed. The law shields the names of people who are arrested and charged during domestic violence incidents.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The Incident
On Sunday, January 15, at approximately 12:04 a.m., Worcester police responded to an apartment on Belmont Street for a report of a stabbing that had just happened. Prior to arrival, police were told that the victim of the stabbing was inside the first floor apartment.
Police arrived on scene and located a 21 year old man suffering from a deep laceration to this left shoulder. Police provided first aid and spoke to the victim. The victim was able to give officers a description of the suspect and told police that the suspect was currently inside of the second floor apartment in the same building. Officers then proceeded to the second floor to locate the suspect. Police knocked on the door, and it was opened by an older man. Directly behind this man, police saw a 32 year old man who matched the description of the suspect.
Police immediately entered and placed the suspect into handcuffs. While in the apartment, police found a 23 year old woman suffering from a large laceration to her upper lip. Once the scene was secured, police were able to speak with all witnesses and victims. Police were told that the suspect was inside the second floor apartment and had become extremely intoxicated and increasingly agitated. When the man and woman tried to calm the suspect down, the suspect grabbed a meat cleaver and struck the man in the shoulder, causing a deep wound. The suspect then sliced the woman’s lip, also causing a serious laceration
After the assault, the male victim was able to leave the apartment and run downstairs to his own apartment, where he was able to call police. Both victims identified the suspect as the man who attacked them with the meat cleaver. The on scene investigation also revealed that the suspect is the woman’s brother-in-law.
Police were able to recover the meat cleaver used in the assault from within the second floor apartment.
