Man Arrested in Worcester on OUI Drug Charges After Crashing Into NStar Truck
Tuesday, August 04, 2015
According to WPD, an officer was working a detail near 710 Grafton Street where NStar was making an emergency repair. Matthew Mehringer of 15 Windsor Avenue in Auburn was operating a 2006 Acura when he crossed over the double solid line and entered the eastbound lane of travel. Mehringer entered a coned off area and struck the NStar truck.
The force of the crash pushed the truck four feet backwards resulting in significant damage to its front end and front drive axle. The fuel tank was ruptured which required a response of Clean Harbors for environmental clean up.
The WPD Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene and upon arrival they observed debris scattered and diesel fuel leaking from the truck. Mehringer was still at the site of the accident being treated by paramedics. At first he refused, but then changed his mind and accepted to be transported to the hospital for treatment of a minor injury to his elbow.
During the investigation, officers determined that Mr. Mehringer had been operating under the influence of narcotics. The vehicle was towed from the scene and will be inspected.
Mehringer was charged with Failure to Stay within Marked Lanes, Impeded Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating Negligently so as to Endanger and OUI Drugs.
