Man Goes on Racial Rant Over Video of Assault

Friday, October 28, 2016

A racist Facebook post made by a Johnston man -- over a video of two young black women assaulting a 62-year-old white man in New York -- has sparked an online debate in Rhode Island.

"Two little shit-stain black skanks whose lives simply don't matter. Sad thing is when they start popping out kids like a Pez dispenser, having 5 kids each (with 5 different guys), my tax dollars will be used to support their little sniveling bastards," wrote Michael Melikian of Johnston on Facebook, of the video.

Melikian had made the comments when Michael Gardiner posted the Yahoo.com article of the video, which reported that the women in the video had been arrested for the assault which was caught on tape.

The incident had occurred after the man had allegedly asked them to not sit on his property.

"I don't approve his comments," said Gardener of Melikian. "But he has the power to erase or apologize so I have made that clear.  If I remove his comments it destroys the discussion or I will be accused of covering for him."

Melikian did not respond to request for comment.

According to an article in Recode published in July, "Twitter sees an average of 480,000 racist tweets a month (compared to 10,000 only three years ago). "We suck at dealing with abuse," said Twitter’s former CEO Dick Costolo. Once again, however, Facebook leads the race, with a whopping 1 million user violation reports every day."
