Massachusetts Correction Officer Exam Date Announced

Massachusetts has announced that the state exam for '2015 Correction Officer I' will be held on March 21. The exam is being held to add names to the eligible list of Correction Officers in the Mass. Department of Correction. Applicants that pass the exam will be added to the existing list based on their test score.

The application period is currently open. The deadline to apply for the exam is February 19. There is a $100 application fee. 

According to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the essential duties of a Correction Officer I are: "Under direct supervision of Correction Officers or other employees of higher grade: Maintains custodial care and control of inmates by escorting or transporting them under restraint, patrolling facilities, making periodic rounds, head counts and security checks of buildings, grounds and inmate quarters, monitoring inmates’ movements and whereabouts, and guarding and directing inmates during work assignments to maintain order and security in a correctional institution; observes conduct and behavior of inmates; develops working relationships with inmates by referring individuals to appropriate supportive services; prepares monthly evaluation reports; performs related operational duties and performs related work as required."
