Friday, September 05, 2014
There will also be a dinner to honor Monfredo as the Worcester Columbus Day Parade Committee’s “Outstanding Italian,” which will be held on September 20th at the Manor Banquet Facility.
“I’m very honored to be selected,” said Monfredo. “I’m thrilled to be among the ranks of the previous Grand Marshalls for this event; I’m thrilled to be a part of that group. By and large, I’m looking forward to the event and seeing many of my friends and family. I’m sure this is something that my parents would be proud of.”
Manor Banquet Facility is located at 42 West Boylston Street in West Boylston. The event is calling for donations of $45 per person. For tickets, call (508) 791-4230.
Serving the Community
Monfredo has long helped various education efforts and initiatives throughout the Worcester area, focusing on improving the local dropout rate and addressing student underachievement.
He is a member of many boards and organizations including: the Rainbow Childhood Development Board, Policy Council for Head Start, Worcester Educational Development Committee, Belmont Street Task Force and Standing Committee of the Worcester Public Schools and Employee Issues. He was recently asked to serve on the board of the Worcester Public Library.
Monfredo has also established a citywide committee in Worcester: The City that Reads. For the past right years, Monfredo and his wife have sponsored a drive that has collected over 200,000 books that have been given to local area children.
“Helping others in need is the real key to finding happiness within yourself,” said Monfredo. “No matter how small the act of kindness, it makes you feel good inside. As an individual, you can control your own destiny through hard work and caring about others. What you can’t control, leave; it’s not worth the energy. Try to live for today and not in the past. Show your love to your family and friends, and do what you can to assist others in need.”
