BREAKING: 18-Year-Old Murder Has New Twist

Thursday, February 16, 2012

The case of the mysterious disappearance of Kevin Harkins on Feb 15, 1994 has been reopened with new evidence against Elias A. Samia, 45, of 78 Arlington St. who was arrested for murder eighteen years after the fact- to the day- and John R. Fredette, who now lives in Maine.

As GoLocalWorcester learned in this afternoon's court proceedings, Mr. Harkins left Sunney's Bar on Chandler Street with two or three other men, and was never seen again. His body was never recovered and he was declared dead on February 29, 2008.

New evidence presented by Worcester District Attorney Joseph B. Early suggests that Mr. Samia got rid of the plates of a car the day after Mr. Harkins' disappearance, along with removing the registration of the car. Mr. Samia was arraigned in Worcester Superior Court this afternoon, and pleaded not guilty. He has been held without bail and the court date is set for March 14.
