Ed Markey, 37-year member of the U.S. House of Representatives, is the projected winner of the Democratic primary for the US Senate seat vacated by John Kerry. Markey bested Democratic rival and fellow member of the US House, Stephen Lynch.

Markey will face projected GOP winner Gabriel Gomez in a general election in June.
