A 2013 survey of college administrators conducted by U.S. News & World Report ranked several New England colleges near the top when it comes to undergraduate teaching.

The survey compiled separate lists of top national universities, liberal arts colleges, and regional universities, with New England schools represented in all three categories. Massachusetts received three of New England's eight mentions, with Williams College, Amherst College, and Mount Holyoke all appearing on the list of liberal arts colleges, ranked eighteenth, ninth, and fifth, respectively.
