NEW: Excessive Heat Warning for Worcester

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the city of Worcester and southern Worcester County. The whole county remains under a heat advisory. The excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 pm today.
Heat Index values are expected up to 110 degress due to temperatures ranging in the upper 90s to 100 degrees and dewpoints around 70.
An excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Avoid prolonged
work in the sun or in poorly ventilated areas. Drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned environment. Stay out of the sun and check in on relatives and neighbors.
