NEW: Flood Alerts For Worcester Area Friday/Saturday

Friday, June 07, 2013

Flood warnings are in effect for Central Mass, and Worcester in particular, as rainfall of up to 5 inches will hit the region today and into Saturday.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea will begin heavy rainfall to southern New England, according to the National Weather Service, with the heaviest rain occuring into early Saturday morning across Southern and Central New England, mainly across the Connecticut Valley and west of the I-95 corridor.

Total rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches are expected, with an isolated 5+ inch amounts possible, the NWS forecasts. "It's possible that around 2 inches of rainfall could fall within 6-hour periods."

The NWS said that heavy rain "will certainly result in at least some urban and poor drainage street flooding," and that flooding is also possible on a few of the smaller rivers and streams. "While most stem rivers should remain in their banks, it's possible that a few could go into minor flood if higher rainfall amounts are realized."
