Wednesday, March 05, 2014
The announcement will be made at an event hosted by QCC at 1:00 p.m. at the school's Harrington Learning Center.
“We are thrilled to be able to continue the work we have undertaken to fortify our STEM Programming," said President Gail E. Carberry, Ed.D.. "Our new QuEST Center (Quinsigamond Engineering, Science and Technology) will be the immediate beneficiary of the funding but our students will reap the ultimate rewards when they graduate and take their places in the MA economy as some of the newest and brightest leaders in the STEM fields. We are grateful to Governor Patrick and the Massachusetts legislature for recognizing the importance of life sciences and for allowing Quinsigamond Community College the opportunity to continue leading the way in educational programming.”
$1 billion in 10 years
Through the MLSC, Massachusetts is investing $1 billion over 10 years in the growth of the state’s life sciences ecosystem. These investments are being made under the Massachusetts Life Sciences Initiative, proposed by Governor Patrick in 2007, and passed by the State Legislature and signed into law by Governor Patrick in 2008.
Also being recognized at Thursday’s event are six area high schools that were authorized this past December to receive equipment and supply grants from the Center: Blackstone Valley Vocational Technical School District, Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science, Quaboag Regional School District, Shrewsbury High School, Doherty High School and Worcester Technical High School.
Speakers at the event will include Governor Deval Patrick, QCC President Gail Carberry, Ed.D, MSLC General Counsel and Vice President for Academic and Workforce Programs, Beth Nicklas, Mount Wachusett Community College President, Daniel Asquino, Ph.D., QCC student speaker, Jose Cruz , MWCC student speaker, Jenna Bonci and area legislators.
