NEW: Worcester Tech and Tufts Team Up To Create Animal Clinic

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray joined several city officials at Worcester Technical High School on Monday, where he helped dedicate a new veterinary clinic.

The student-run wellness clinic will serve pets from underserved areas throughout the greater Worcester area, and is a collaborative with Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. It will provide care for pets that may not have access to veterinary services, hands-on learning for students in the high school’s veterinary assisting program and Tufts’ Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, and the societal benefit of better disease monitoring and higher vaccination rates. Clients must undergo a means test —showing proof of government assistance, for example — to qualify for care.

In addition to Murray, speakers and representatives at the ceremony included School Superintendent Dr. Melinda Boone, Mayor Joseph Petty, former Mayor and Worcester Housing Authority Executive Director Raymond Mariano and Cummings School Dean Dr. Deborah Kochevar and others.
