NEW: Massport Responds to Direct Air Flight Concerns

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Massport is monitoring the situation with Direct Air closely and will share information with the public as soon as it is available by Direct Air. As of this morning Massport has not been informed by the airline of its flight status for Worcester Airport.

Richard Walsh, Massport spokesman said, "In the three plus years they have operated at Worcester Regional Airport, the carrier has seen consistent growth with Worcester being one of its most popular markets with passenger load factors of 80 percent in 2011 which is a clear indicator that Worcester is a viable market."

Massport is the state agency that runs Worcester Airport.

GoLocalWorcester reported last night that several flights were cancel without explanation, fueling rumors that the airline might be in trouble.

Worcester's mayor has also reached out to Direct Air for answers.
