NEW: Middle River Clean Up Scheduled for Saturday April 13, Volunteers Needed

Friday, April 12, 2013

The Canal District Alliance and Holy Cross are looking for volunteers to help with the Middle River Clean Up on Saturday from 9 to noon.

On Saturday April 13, the Canal District Alliance and Holy Cross will be removing brush and debris on the Middle River bank along McKeon Road, and are looking for volunteers to help.

From 9 AM to 12PM, the now annual effort will focus on the stretch of river that goes from Holy Cross Stadium to Wal-Mart.  The organizations' stated goal is to get 75 volunteers turn out and support the clean up.

According to the clean up Facebook page, "The Middle River is a major tributary of the Blackstone River hidden in our urban landscape and long neglected. This effort hopes to bring attention to this stretch of river that is rich with wildlife and offers a peaceful forested reserve at the base of the College of the Holy Cross. The Middle River flows by the proposed Blackstone Valley Visitor Center site near Wal-Mart and offers spectacular albeit unkempt vistas."
