NEW: Sen. Moore Announces Out-of-State Tuition Discount Program for MA Residents

Friday, March 22, 2013

State Senator Michael Moore (D-Millbury) announced Friday that Massachusetts' Regional Student Program (RSP) Tuition Break program will continue to be provided for the 2013-14 academic year.

In conjunction with the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE), the RSP tuition break program provides a significant tuition discount to Bay State residents when they enroll at public higher education institutions in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont and are pursuing specialized degree programs, which are not offered in state colleges and universities in their home state.

“I am pleased to announce that the Regional Student Program will continue to be offered for the 2013-14 academic school year,” said Moore, the Senate Chairman of the Joint Committee on Higher Education. “This program assists residents of the Commonwealth to attend out-of-state institutes of public higher education to pursue degrees in specialized programs, many in fields of high demand in Massachusetts.”

During the 2012-13 academic year, more than 2,100 Massachusetts residents benefited from NEBHE’s program and saved a total of $13.6 million on their tuition bills. Full-time students each saved an average of $7,300.

Massachusetts residents are eligible through NEBHE’s program for more than 250 undergraduate and graduate degree programs at public colleges and universities in the other five New England states.

Examples of degree programs available to Mass. residents with the RSP tuition discount are: Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology, Biomedical Engineering, Construction Management Technology, Environmental Engineering, Health Care Management, Marine Sciences, Outdoor Education, Russian Studies, Sustainable Agriculture and Sustainable Design.
