NEW: Two New Attorneys Named for Central Mass Courts

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Two new trial attorneys are set to join district courts in Central Massachusetts, including the Worcester District Court.

Gov. Deval Patrick nominated Jennifer L. Ginsburg as associate justice of the Worcester District Court and Maura K. McCarthy as associate justice of the Leominster District Court, saying, “Jennifer Ginsburg and Maura McCarthy are very well-respected attorneys, with demonstrated expertise and commitment to the fair administration of justice and to the communities served by the District Court. It is an honor to nominate them to the bench and I sincerely thank them for their willingness to serve.”

Ginsburg has been director of the Worcester District Court Office of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) since 2006. She served as a staff attorney for CPCS in the Worcester Superior Court Office from 1997 to 2006. Prior to joining CPCS, she worked two years as a staff attorney for the Nassau County Legal Aid Society, and one year as a law clerk at the Massachusetts Superior Court. Ginsburg serves as the co-chair of the Worcester County Bar Association criminal law section. She also serves on the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. Criminal Law Curriculum Advisory Committee. Ginsburg is a graduate of Northwestern University (B.A., 1989) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 1993) and is a resident of Worcester. She is slated to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of the Honorable David Ricciardone to the Superior Court.

McCarthy is the Chief of the Child Abuse, Sexual Assault, Disabled Persons and Elder Units in the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, a position she has held since 2007. She began working in the Worcester County District Attorney’s office in 1996, spending four years as a District Court prosecutor and seven years as a Superior Court prosecutor. She is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (B.A., 1987) and Southern New England School of Law (J.D., 1994) and resides in. If confirmed, McCarthy will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable John J. Curran, Jr.
