NEW: National Grid Donates $155K to United Way for Heating Assistance

National Grid has made a generous gift of $155,000 to United Way of Central Massachusetts to help ensure that all families in central Massachusetts have heat this winter. This donation will go directly to the Worcester Community Action Council’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

"National Grid is committed to enhancing the quality of life for our customers in the communities we serve. We are very proud to be a major supporter of the United Way and are especially pleased to support the Worcester Community Action Council in assisting so many of our customers with their energy costs,” Marcy Reed, president of National Grid in Massachusetts, explains.

Last year, Worcester Community Action Council’s LIHEAP served 16,622 residents in central Massachusetts. This gift from National Grid is especially valuable as it comes just as resources from federal funding are dwindling.

“These funds will help over 400 households—from young families to seniors and many folks with disabilities who are on a critical financial edge. Most of our 16,000 fuel assistance households have exhausted their allowable benefits. This help will enable them to get a tank of oil delivered, avoid utility shut-offs, and keep them warm and safe during these final weeks of winter. National Grid continues to lead by example as a corporate partner that cares about the greater good," Jill C. Dagilis, Executive Director of Worcester Community Action Council explains.

Through contributions received from individuals, corporations, and foundations in central Massachusetts, United Way of Central Massachusetts provides resources to a number of programs at local partner agencies throughout the year. During the winter months, however, additional resources are needed to meet the increased and immediate demand for food, fuel, and shelter. United Way applauds National Grid for stepping forward to meet the need this winter.
