NEW: MA Senate Passes $2M Increase for Worcester Transportation

Friday, May 03, 2013

The Massachusetts senate announced today increases in Chapter 90 funding, meaning more money for Worcester's transportation improvements, to the tune of a $2 million increase. In total, the legislation will dedicate $300 million in Chapter 90 funding for municipalities in fiscal year 2014, an increase of $100 million from last year.

Worcester’s new number, $6,163,424, shows an increase of $2,054,475.

“Chapter 90 funding is vital to ensuring the economic success of the communities in the Second Worcester District,” said state Senator Michael Moore (D-Millbury). “This increase in funding will allow our cities and towns to continue to provide essential services to residents, by improving and maintaining roadways.”

If approved, all municipalities in the Second Worcester District received an increase to their Chapter 90 funding from fiscal year 2013.

Many Central Mass communities would receive a sizable increase including Auburn, which would receive $896,186, an increase of $298,729. Grafton would score $757,038, an increase of $252,346. $650,948 would go to Leicester, an increase of $216,983. Millbury would see $651,404, an increase of $217,135. Northbridge would earn $718,485, an increase of $239,495. The town of Shrewsbury would receive $1,483,715, an increase of $494,572, and Upton would get $479,443, an increase of $159,814.
