Wanted Worcester Child Rapist Caught in Puerto Rico

Saturday, November 14, 2015

Markys Semprith-Garcia, 18, wanted out of Worcester for charges of aggravated child rape and intimidation of a witness coming from the sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl, has been taken into custody by US Marshals in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The Marshals were directed by Worcester and Massachusetts State police.

The Crime

According to Massachusetts State Police, evidence shows that in the spring of 2014, Semprith-Garcia, an acquaintance of the victim's family, raped the girl in her home and then threatened to harm here if she told anyone. The crime was reported this past September.

Earlier this month, trooper Amy Waterman from the State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section began working with Worcester Police Detective Rich Boulette to find Semprith-Garcia.

The investigation resulted in information that he had fled to Puerto Rico. Further investigation allowed the officers to determine Semprith-Garcia  was in Arecibo, a city on the island's northern coast.

What's Next

Worcester County prosecutors will work with federal officials to arrange Semprith-Garcia's extradition to the United States to be held accountable for his crimes.

No further information is being released at this time.
