Prostitution Sting Nabs Eight ‘Johns’ and Four Women in Worcester
Thursday, December 18, 2014
According to a GoLocal report, Worcester arrests more prostitutes than any other city in Massachusetts.
"The Worcester Police Department is committed to directing resources to address the visible presence of illegal sex for a fee activity that negatively impacts the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Today's sting operation is an example of our ongoing efforts to reduce both the supply and demand side of the illegal sex for a fee transactions taking place on city streets," said Police Chief Gary Gemme.
During the prositution sting, which took seven hours, four women between the ages of 24 and 40 were arrested. Eight men, or 'johns,' ages 23 to 65 were also placed under arrest.
The 16-year-old male was charged with possession of a class A and class B substance with intent to distribute, and distribution of the class B substance. After the male approached an undercover officer and asked the officer if she was interested in purchasing drugs, an exchange took place of a small bag of crack cocaine for $20.00. Members of the Vice Squad moved in and arrested the juvenile. The 16-year-old was found to have 45 bags of crack cocaine, 32 bags of heroin and $245 in cash.
"We recognize that reducing demand for prostitution, by arresting the so called 'Johns' has the greater potential to shrink or destroy the market for this illegal activity. Community efforts in identifying and providing social services for women victimized by prostitution are a critical part of any long term strategy," said Gemme.
