Of the more than 5,100 bridges in the state of Massachusetts, nine percent of them are structurally deficient.

According to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, 43% of all the bridges in the Commonwealth are classified as functionally obsolete - meaning that these bridges do not meet the design standards that are in line with current practice. 

Between 2004 and 2014, nearly 300 new bridges had been built in Massachusetts. 

The ten worst bridges in the state are crossed daily 1.4 million times combined.
