Swearing-In Ceremony for New Fire Chief to Be Held Aug. 14

Upon announcement as the next Chief, Gardell said“I would like to thank the City Manager for choosing me as the next WFD fire chief, I am honored and excited for the opportunity. Chief Dio is leaving big shoes to fill; he is the ultimate professional and I have learned much from his tutelage. I would like to wish him much happiness on his well-deserved retirement.”
Gardell has been with the department for 31 years. He has served in the role of Deputy Chief since August 2011 and is also the WFD's public information officer.
Dio has been Chief since 2000.
The swearing in will take place at 4 PM in the Levi Lincoln Chamber at City Hall. Guests are encouraged to arrive a few minutes before the start time.
