The Atlantic: ‘Worcester is Biggest Winner in U.S. Olympic Bid’

Monday, January 12, 2015

On Friday, Citylab.com, part of Atlantic Media, published a column naming Worcester as the biggest winner in the state if Boston is awarded the 2024 Olympics.

According to the story, Worcester will be a perfect Olympic destination because of its "cheap accomodations, convenient commute, and world-class rowing stage."

Sam Sturgis of Citylab.com reports that "Worcester will probably contribute none of the roughly $10 to $20 billion needed to finance the 2024 event."

Key points of the article include the nine colleges and universities in Worcester that will be able to provide housing, the use of Lake Quinsigamond for Olympic rowing events as a "no-brainer," and the affordable cost of coming and going between Worcester and Boston on the Commuter Rail.
