The Top High Schools in Massachusetts 2012: An Overview of the Study

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

In the 1640’s Massachusetts Bay Colony passed the first law in the New World requiring that children be taught to read and write. Massachusetts then required that all towns establish and maintain public schools. Several hundred years later, Massachusetts has some 373 public schools. However, there’s a huge gap between the top tier public schools in the state and those falling below the national average.

It is that great divide that can make the difference for a student getting into their dream college or settling on their safety school. It is also a topic that brings on a fiery debate among parents, teachers and students.

But what are the best high schools - public, charter, and technical - in Massachusetts?

GoLocalWorcester has the answers. By applying mathematical rigor to the question, and after months of research, hundreds of hours of spreadsheet toil, and careful statistical analysis, we've got this year's rankings. We will reveal the entire list at the end of the week.

We complied a separate list just for Central Massachusetts. We created a top 20 list for Central Massachusetts. Today you see which schools ended up on the bottom of that list-spots 20-16. Tomorrow we will share the next five on the list. Click here.  if you would like to understand more about our method to the madness of top high schools!
