Three Worcester Men Arrested in Kelly Square Following Chase

Saturday, July 22, 2017

Three Worcester men were arrested in Kelly Square following a foot pursuit through Worcester.

The arrests followed an argument that took place at the Shell Gas Station on Madison Street.

The Incident

On Friday, July 21 at about 3:30 a.m., a Worcester police officer was driving west on Madison St when he saw a Silver Volvo in the right travel lane in front of the Shell gas station. The car was unoccupied and both passenger side doors were open. The officer saw four men near the Shell station in what appeared to be a heated argument. When the men saw the officer, three of them immediately headed back to their parked car. As the three men entered the car, one of them yelled insults at their antagonist by the Shell station.

At this time, the officer pulled behind the Volvo to stop the car and speak with the driver about leaving the car unattended in traffic. When the officer activated his blue lights and tried to stop the car, the driver placed the car in drive and rolled for about thirty feet before placing it in park. The front and rear passenger side doors opened and the two men occupants fled on foot in a full sprint through traffic and the Shell parking lot. It was immediately apparent that the men were running in a strange way with their hands in their waistbands, as if to keep something from falling. The officer chased them and broadcast over the radio that he was in a foot pursuit.

The officer caught up with one of the men, later identified as Katrel Waller, 21, of 3 Travis St. The officer saw that Waller had a dark object in his hand. As the officer brought him to the ground, Waller threw the object, which turned out to be a dark green handgun with the hammer locked back and in firing position. A loaded magazine, which had apparently been discharged from the weapon when they struck the ground, was located about ten feet from the firearm.

Waller is charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID card, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct.

Shortly after Waller was placed under arrest, officers were able to locate the driver of the car, who had also fled on foot. A check of CJIS revealed that Terence Graves, 26, of 102 Plantation St, did not have a license to operate a motor vehicle. He was placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Stop for Police.

After the two men were placed under arrest, a white Audi pulled up directly behind the police cruiser and a man, later identified as Angel Rosario, 22, of 11 Foster Street, exited the car. He began yelling and trying to speak with the men in custody. Officers asked him several times to move his car and stop interfering with the arrest, but he refused. He continued yelling at the officers, refusing to move, and creating a disturbance to the customers walking in and out of the Shell gas station.

He was placed under arrest and charged with Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace, and Interfering with a Police Officer. All three males will be arraigned in Worcester District Court.
