Turtleboy: Cat Petition is Meaningless Whining
Tuesday, February 03, 2015
The anti-cat petition starts off as follows:
Our animal rescue group was contacted by a group of concerned students who were asked to dissect cats in their classroom. I have made several attempts to contact the principle, Christopher Kursonis, but he has not returned any of my calls, emails or letters.
I’d like to applaud Principal Kursonis for ignoring these dolts. Newsflash animal rescue group – you have no authority. You don’t matter. You aren’t involved in public education and you certainly don’t have any sort of say in curriculum development of a school you have nothing to do with.
What happened here is a bunch of whiny kids would rather complain about something than learn from it. You don’t wanna dissect cats? Fine. No points off. Here’s an alternative assignment. But you don’t have any right to try to take away everyone else’s right to learn.
My question for the people whining about this is, do you like modern medicine? Do you like the fact that you live in a country where the average life expectancy is one of the highest in the world? Well, how do you think we got there? By testing drugs on animals. It’s not sad or barbaric, because after all, they’re animals. Well, unless you take this comment from the Change.org petition:
“Beacuse cats are people to and it is sick”
Yea, OF COURSE cats are people too. Of course of they are. That sentence right there basically sums up the mentality of this entire petition.
Look I ride a turtle for a living. I also watch more NatGeo than any person should ever watch. When mother turtles lay their eggs the babies have to go a hundred yards to the ocean. Guess what happens to them along the way? They pretty much all get eaten. Like, a few of them make it, but mostly they die. Even most baby lions don’t make it past the age of two. Because that’s what happens to animals in the wild when they don’t have access to health care. They die. Their lives are expendable and they have no souls. Cutting up cats for science so that human beings can live longer is something that every normal person should agree is a good thing.
