Two Men Arrested After Breaking Into Cars in Worcester

Tuesday, December 19, 2017

Two men were arrested in Worcester for breaking into cars over the weekend in unrelated incidents.

Angel Otago, 18, was charged with Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle for a Felony.

Elvin Ramos, 35, was charged with Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle at Night for a Felony and Possession of Burglarious Tools.

The Incidents

On 12/15/17 at about 12:24 AM, Worcester police were dispatched to the area of Thornton Rd for a report of a suspicious male who was breaking into cars. Upon arrival, police spoke with a witness, who observed a male, later identified as Otano, entering and going through a dark-colored Lexus that was parked on the street. Officers followed footprints in the snow leading from the car, and located Otano a short distance from the car.

Otano ran from police but was caught shortly after. He had two knives and several assorted electronic items on him, and was identified by the victim as the individual breaking into the car. Otano was placed under arrest.

On 12/16/17 at about 2 a.m., officers received a call that someone was trying to open several vehicle doors in the June St. area. The caller described a male on a bicycle wearing a backpack, driving toward Mill Street. On the way to the call, officers observed a man, later identified as Ramos riding a bicycle toward Mill St while wearing a backpack.

Officers engaged Ramos in conversation. Ramos appeared to be extremely nervous and gave unconvincing and contradictory answers to officers’ questions. He had a clear, see-through plastic bag attached to his backpack. Officers looked at the bag, and could see receipts and gift items with various last names and addresses which were different from that of Ramos.

At this point, officers went to the addresses and spoke with victims, who confirmed that items had been stolen from their vehicles. Officers could see some of the items inside Ramos’ bag. He was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest revealed three sets of vehicle keys, a pocket knife, sneakers, and various other gift items.
