Two Worcester Men Arrested Following Assault of Rival Motorcycle Gang Members

Two Worcester men have been arrested following an assault that took place at Suney's Pub in Worcester on May 8 between members of rival motorcycle gangs. 

Jake Doherty, 32, of Worcester was arrested at home on June 17 and and charged with armed robbery, 2 counts of aggravated assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault and battery. 

Michael Blair, 37, of Worcester was arrested at his home on June 20 and  charged with armed robbery, 2 counts of aggravated assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault and battery. 

The investigation is still ongoing. 

The Incident 

On May 8 at around 7:20 p.m. Worcester Police responded to Suney's Pub on 216 Chandler Street for a report of an assault and battery involving a dangerous weapon. Upon arrival, officers saw a 25-year-old male and a 54-year-old male  victim suffering from head injuries. The victims were treated by EMS at the scene and taken to a local hospital. 

Officers at the scene were informed that the 25-year-old victim was standing outside of Suney's Pub when he was accosted by several men that began to punch and strike him with a flashlight. The victim was knocked to the ground while the attack continued. 

The 54-year-old victim was inside the pub when he observed the fight. He went outside to help when he was attacked by the same group of males. 

According to witnesses, there were approximately 7 men attacking the two. Officers were told that one of the suspects closed the door to the pub when the older victim excited the building preventing anyone from inside to leave. 

Investigators went to the hospital to talk to the victims. The victims stated that during the attack they had their jackets taken from them along with a cell phone. The victims were uncooperative when asked about the motive  of the attack as well as identities of the suspects. The 54-year-old victim was downgraded to serious condition and had to go in for surgery where he was in serious but stable condition. 

Investigators were able to obtain information that the two groups belong to difference motorcycle gangs that have been at odds with each other. Investigators were able to recognize that the two gangs have been having issues lately through social media as well as physical confrontations when they see each other. 

Suspects Identified 

During the investigation, two of the suspects were identified and warrants were issued for their arrests. 

Police arrested Dohery on Friday, June 17 and arrested Blair on Monday, June 20.

The investigation is ongoing as other suspects are in the process of being identified.
