Two Worcester Men Arrested for Stealing a Car on Halloween

Friday, November 03, 2017

Two Worcester men were arrested after stealing a car on Grafton Street on Halloween night.

Edgar Colon, 32, was charged with Use of a Motor Vehicle without Authority, Possession of Burglarious Instruments, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Jorge Figueroa, 34, was charged with Use of a Motor Vehicle without Authority and Possession of Burglarious Instruments.

The Incident

On October 31st, at about 11:40 p.m., a Worcester Police officer on patrol saw a Green Toyota Corolla go through the stop sign at Dorchester and Grafton St without stopping. When the officer ran the car’s registration through his mobile data terminal, he saw that the car had been reported stolen. The officer asked for assistance over the radio, and activated his blue lights and siren, stopping the car at 335 Grafton St after other units arrived.

As the officers approached the car, they ordered the operator, later identified as Colon of 25 Queen St, to shut off the car.  Colon was unable to do so because the ignition of the car was completely destroyed. This is a common way in which car thieves start older cars without keys. The front-seat passenger of the car, Figueroa, of 2 Agawam St, had a clear view of the destroyed ignition.

The officer also saw various tools all over the front seat, including screwdrivers, wrenches, tire wrenches, and metal rods. These types of tools are often used to break into houses and cars. A check of CJIS revealed that Colon did not have a license to operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts.

Both men were removed from the car and placed under arrest.
