Two Worcester Men Arrested for Trafficking Cocaine

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Two Worcester men were arrested for trafficking cocaine in the area of 660 Main Street in Worcester.

Gabriel Rodriguez, 22, was charged with Illegally Attaching License Plates, Operating an Uninsured MV, Operating an Unregistered MV, Trafficking in Class B Substance, Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance Laws, and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol.

Jose Ramirez, 25, was charged with trafficking in Class B Substance, Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substance Laws, and Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol.

The Incident

On Tuesday, July 25, a Worcester Police officer on routine patrol was driving his marked police car on Main Street when he noticed a car with a license plate that he remembered from a call on July 14. The car in question was involved in a disturbance (fight) involving several men, one which allegedly had a handgun. The suspects fled in the car prior to police arrival on that day. Since then, police had been on the lookout for the car.

The officer ran the license plate in the cruiser computer. The plate came back to a different car. The officer activated his emergency lights and signaled the driver to pull to the side of the road. The car stopped in front of 660 Main Street. The officer approached the car and noticed that the passenger was moving about and reaching under his seat. The officer approached the driver and asked for his license. The driver was identified as Rodriguez of 97 Millbury Street. The officer identified the passenger as Ramirez of 9 May Street. Ramirez continued to act nervous which made the officer believe that he may be in possession of a weapon. As a result, both men were asked to exit the car.

Once out of the car a backup officer saw a plastic baggie on the passenger floor. The baggie contained crack cocaine. The officer also located an opened container of alcohol in the center console that was nearly empty.

Both men were placed under arrest.

A search of Rodriguez produced $3,369 in cash. The crack cocaine weighed approximately 86 grams. Both the drugs and cash were seized as evidence.
