Two Worcester Residents Arrested for Open Air Drug Dealing Near Pleasant Street
Saturday, June 03, 2017
Madeline Ayala, 58, of Pleasant Street was arrested for possession of a Class B Substance.
David Jones, 48, of Piedmont Street was arrested and charged with Possession of a Class B Substance with Intent to Distribute, and Distribution of Cocaine (2nd or Subsequent Offense.)
They will both be arraigned on Friday at Worcester District Court.
The Incident
On Thursday, June 1 at about 6:20 p.m., two Worcester police officers assigned to the Neighborhood Response Team were conducting a crime watch meeting at the Pleasant Street Neighborhood Networking Center at 301 Pleasant St. Area residents have complained about public drinking, disorderly persons, and blatant open-air drug sales.
While the officers were conducting the meeting, their attention was drawn to a man, later identified as David Jones, 48, of 85 Piedmont St, and Madeline Ayala, 58, of 275 Pleasant St.
This pair was talking loudly in the doorway of the Neighborhood Center, approximately fifteen feet away from the officers. The police and people present at the meeting could hear their conversation. Ayala handed Jones paper money, and he said, “Wait here, I’ll be back!” Jones disappeared for about a minute, and returned with what appeared to be small plastic bag and placed it in her hands. The pair briefly argued about the size of the object that Jones had just delivered, and whether it was worth forty dollars.
At this point, police believed that an illegal drug transaction had just taken place. Officers approached Ayala and discovered a bag of crack cocaine in her hand. She was placed under arrest. Officers followed and detained Jones, who had gone into a nearby restaurant. A search incident to arrest revealed 15 packets of Suboxone, a Class B substance for which Jones did not have a prescription, a bag of crack cocaine, forty dollars in his pocket, a wallet with $365, and two phones.
