History in a nutshell:
Uxbridge was a leader in the earliest industrialization of both the region and the nation. It was home of the first woolen mill in the Blackstone Valley, built in 1809, fueling the production of textiles, power looms for woolens and cashmere woolens. Uxbridge also was the manufacturer of the first Air Force Dress Uniform, "Uxbridge Blue," continuing to produce military uniforms for more than 140 years. The patriarch of the political Taft family, Robert Taft I, settled in Uxbridge in 1680.
